David J. Scafa, CPA, PFS
Founder
Dave is a certified public accountant and personal financial specialist with more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Dave has a diversified career background that allows him to serve his clients in the most impactful way possible. During his time with the New York City Comptroller's Office, he oversaw generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) audits of the City’s five major retirement systems and was also responsible for the accounting of the City’s multi-billion-dollar pension portfolio.
In 1990, Dave was promoted to deputy chief accountant of New York City. Here, he broadened his responsibilities to include the City’s accounting and issuance of their Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. A few years later, Dave realized his goal of managing his own CPA practice by founding David J. Scafa, CPA, PFS in 1996.
Dave is a graduate of Baruch College of the City University of New York. He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Dave and Liz live in central New Jersey. They are the proud parents of Stephanie, who resides in Washington, D.C., and Christine, who resides in Jersey City, NJ.
Patricia Stanley
Accounting Manager
Patricia Stanley is an accomplished accounting professional with three decades of experience in general ledger maintenance, account analysis and reconciliation and more. She has honed her skills and deepened her knowledge of business finance and accounting through an impressive career that has included manager of a regional full-service CPA firm (Withum, Smith & Brown), full charge controller (Oliver Communications Group, Inc. and Yardville Supply Company) and independent bookkeeping consultant serving non-profit organizations and small businesses.
Patricia has experience auditing for governmental compliance and has further diversified her skills through experience in human resources. For fifteen years, she has been a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of Kidsbridge. Previously, she served as treasurer and board member of the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey, a member of the Hamilton Township Women’s Advisory Commission and treasurer of United Presbyterian Church.
Mary Basso
Client Services Assistant
Mary is a dedicated and detail-oriented accountant. She is responsible for the preliminary tax preparation for individual client returns, which involves entering all tax data and contacting clients for missing information, so the return is ready for final review and processing. Due to her extensive experience, Mary has developed relationships with the firm’s many clients over the years, facilitating the tax preparation process. Mary also worked for the NYC Fire Department (FDNY) for more than 36 years. She retired in 2016 as the director of the Bureau of Uniformed Pensions. Mary’s responsibilities included managing all aspects of the FDNY retirement system. In her free time, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and working with animal rescues.
